Good communication skills are very important. It is even more beneficial to be able to communicate in another
language. Why not learn American Sign Language? Take a class at your local community college. You may
be helpful to a deaf person one day!
It takes children who are fluent speakers, readers, and writers in one language about 7-10 years to become fluent
in these academic skills in a new language. Many people expect children who have conversational English to be able
to pass a national examination in English. What foreign language did you study in high school? Do you still remember
certain phrases? So now are you ready to take that national examination in French, German, or Spanish?
Even the smartest kids sometimes get caught up in drug use. Some warning signs include:
* Loss of
appetite
* Withdrawal
* Stealing money
* Drop in grades
* Glazed over eyes
* Hangs out with new
undesirable kids
* Lies
* Weight Loss
* Doesn't appear to care about
previously enjoyable activities
like sports.
* New oppositional behaviors
